[ Yet another new face to greet the network, and likely not for the first time, it's the face of someone who's clearly bent over backwards to try and figure out where he is and how he got here. To no avail, evidently. He's stranded, pretty much, he's managed to figure that much out.
But that's not even what's the most puzzling about all this. You see, traveling across the galaxy has made him more prone to accept that he can get snatched up, either on purpose or by accident, or even that he might trip over some dimension-breaking wormhole and end up in an alternate reality.
At least this one doesn't have another version of him (so far), so there's that.
But anyway. Onto trying to figure some things out, at least. ]
This is Captain James T. Kirk, of the USS Enterprise. I understand that likely means nothing to most of you, if not everyone, but I'll make it quick: the Enterprise is the flagship of the United Federation of Planets, operated by Starfleet, from the 23rd century, year 2263.
[ He'll skip on explaining the Federation or Starfleet for now. If anyone asks then he'll get into more detail. More pressing matters, though. ]
My ship is here, but my crew is not. Not unless I'm missing something, and if anyone can tell me where should I go to look for them, then I'd appreciate it. I... welcome the help of the Eluvio crew being on board to help me run my ship, [ No he doesn't. ] but I'd much rather have my crew, as you can likely imagine.
[ He sighs quietly, a show of frustration more than anything else. ]
On an unrelated note, would anyone mind taking a couple of hours to explain to me how currency works? I'm not... used to handling it. I'm crap at it too, if we're being completely honest. [ Seriously, does he really have to have a job? Ugh. ]
Other than that... well, I guess we're all stuck here, so I'd like to get to know everyone to some degree. So hit me up and let's chat sometime.
[ There, harmless and vague enough. And with a friendly smile, he leans in to end the feed. ]

[He hopes that they do, but with the anomalies so random, it's hard to guess.]
I think Viktor and I were taken by the same anomaly, but he still got here about three weeks earlier than I did.

[ Because he doesn't want to get hopeful about someone else showing up. Even if he shouldn't hope someone he knows would end up stuck in this situation along with him. ]

She'll let the others handle conversations about currency and the anomalies of when people may or may not arrive. She has more important things to ask] So, you must have gone all around space, right? Have you met a lot of aliens? [VERY IMPORTANT THINGS TO ASK.]
no subject
Well, yes. A lot of them. [ Intimately. ] Even back on Earth there are plenty of aliens. I've studied with several back at the academy, and I have a number of them from various different species on my crew. My first officer, for instance.

[ This is said quite matter-of-factly, because it seems to be the logical conclusion. Ship made it, but the passengers didn't. Stands to reason, right? She's not really saying it to be cruel, though. Understanding how people feel about other people is still kind of a developing concept for Shaw. ]
no subject
We... weren't actually in outer space when I was brought in here, so I'm fairly confident they're fine, wherever they are.
[ With a light air of playful sarcasm, he goes on to add. ] But thanks for the rosy hypothesis, that really put my mind to rest.

Where you come from doesn't have currency?
You're not the first one to arrive with a ship and no crew, Captain Kirk.

Yeah, someone else mentioned having their ship here. Is your ship here, too?

( He's sitting at a desk in his quarters, so he's waving with a waggle of his fingers as he sets down the pen he's holding in his other hand. A quick frown cuts across his features; leaning to the side and offscreen, the muffled sounds of "Makkachin, drop Konpeito" can be heard before he's sitting back up, placing a curly brown furred tribble on the desk in front of him.
Right. Where was he? The face of a brown furred poodle comes on camera, nudging underneath Victor's arm. Absently, he smiles, both petting his dog and rolling what Kirk had been talking about over in his head. )
Seems like there's a number of people coming in with their ships. I thought anomalies taking individuals were amazing enough... taking whole ships? Without their crews?
( He whistles, impressed. He's really just letting that settle in now, the number of ships that are honestly in possession of new arrivals. Not even compounded. Curious. )
As for the rest — well, if you feel up to a chat over friendly drinks as a matter of saying welcome to this madness, count me in. It's a great time to practice with the currency system they have here!
( It's a more polite smile and more serious regard with his gaze; but still, there's a point and purpose to continuing to network with every person who arrives here.
... especially the ones with their own ships. He's not going to trust in goodwill of any one group all alone. )
no subject
[ Not that he minds being addressed as 'Captain', but it seems a little too formal given the current circumstances. ]
And without us even seeing or detecting those anomalies, too. It's both impressive and puzzling now they managed that. I'd expect to notice even something small, you know? Not just... take a step and suddenly find myself here.
[ That's definitely not how anomalies work in his world. Not that they do get a lot of anomalies, but he'd expect something along the lines of the portal that Ambassador Spock created using the red matter on board the Jellyfish. ]
Sounds good to me. Besides, I really could use a drink right now. [ Not getting piss drunk or anything, just something to soothe his nerves. ] When are you free?
