[ Yet another new face to greet the network, and likely not for the first time, it's the face of someone who's clearly bent over backwards to try and figure out where he is and how he got here. To no avail, evidently. He's stranded, pretty much, he's managed to figure that much out.
But that's not even what's the most puzzling about all this. You see, traveling across the galaxy has made him more prone to accept that he can get snatched up, either on purpose or by accident, or even that he might trip over some dimension-breaking wormhole and end up in an alternate reality.
At least this one doesn't have another version of him (so far), so there's that.
But anyway. Onto trying to figure some things out, at least. ]
This is Captain James T. Kirk, of the USS Enterprise. I understand that likely means nothing to most of you, if not everyone, but I'll make it quick: the Enterprise is the flagship of the United Federation of Planets, operated by Starfleet, from the 23rd century, year 2263.
[ He'll skip on explaining the Federation or Starfleet for now. If anyone asks then he'll get into more detail. More pressing matters, though. ]
My ship is here, but my crew is not. Not unless I'm missing something, and if anyone can tell me where should I go to look for them, then I'd appreciate it. I... welcome the help of the Eluvio crew being on board to help me run my ship, [ No he doesn't. ] but I'd much rather have my crew, as you can likely imagine.
[ He sighs quietly, a show of frustration more than anything else. ]
On an unrelated note, would anyone mind taking a couple of hours to explain to me how currency works? I'm not... used to handling it. I'm crap at it too, if we're being completely honest. [ Seriously, does he really have to have a job? Ugh. ]
Other than that... well, I guess we're all stuck here, so I'd like to get to know everyone to some degree. So hit me up and let's chat sometime.
[ There, harmless and vague enough. And with a friendly smile, he leans in to end the feed. ]

She'll let the others handle conversations about currency and the anomalies of when people may or may not arrive. She has more important things to ask] So, you must have gone all around space, right? Have you met a lot of aliens? [VERY IMPORTANT THINGS TO ASK.]
no subject
Well, yes. A lot of them. [ Intimately. ] Even back on Earth there are plenty of aliens. I've studied with several back at the academy, and I have a number of them from various different species on my crew. My first officer, for instance.

Where I'm from, it was 1988. Space travel was still really new. I'm a little jealous I'll never get to see it in my life time. [She says that and then immediately pauses, looking around herself.] Well. If everything was normal, anyhow. [You know, if she hadn't been kidnapped by weird space anomaly things or whatever the excuse was.]
What's your first officer like?
no subject
[ He nods. ] I know what you mean. You might catch some of the earlier expeditions, but probably nothing like deep space travel— unless your timeline ends up being a little different and things happen sooner for you. You never know.
He's a Vulcan. He's got green blood and a heart on his side, and his species is known for being highly logical and aiming to purge all emotion. It sounds kind of weird, but he's actually not that bad. [ Just a little frustrating. ]
no subject
Mio considers that too, but given her world already seems to be overrun with the supernatural, she has a feeling the scifi elements will be lacking.
Fatal Frame 6: IN SPACE.] Maybe... It's kind of strange to think about it like that. This timeline or that timeline, this world or that. I always thought a 'space anomaly' would mean something like... weird colors or a blackhole or something. Not kidnapping people from across dimensions.[What kind of anomaly is THAT powerful??
She listens to his explanation with apparent interest--she doesn't even bother trying to hide her emotions] Vulcan. [She repeats the name, sort of testing it] Purge all emotions? Why would they do that? To be more logical? It doesn't sound very fun.
no subject
It can be just that sometimes, but as for people making their way through... doesn't usually happen unless you get close enough. I definitely never heard of it happening without people even realizing it. [ But hey, the universe is full of possibilities. Universes, actually. ]
It doesn't, does it? Not that they seem to care much. Fun is "illogical". [ He does the air quotes and everything. Spock would be raising an eyebrow at him right now if he were here. ]
no subject
There's a hint of a smile on her face, like she's not entirely sure this isn't a joke. Who could be that serious all the time??] But not having any fun is "illogical" [She copies his airquotes too] too. What's that saying about all work and no play or something?
I bet they take more classes and play chess for their idea of fun, huh? [Clearly Mio has never experienced the joy of 3D chess]
no subject
You know, that's the argument I used to get him to have some fun. [ He smiles faintly. ] I'm being too mean. He does have fun sometimes, he's just... different about it. You'd know what I mean if he were here. And hey, chess is great fun. Even more fun when I beat him and he gets all pouty.
[ Jim, you liar. Spock may do a lot of things but he definitely does not pout. ]
no subject
And pouting doesn't seem very logical. [But she believes Jim which is probably a terrible idea.] But you play chess? Is space-chess any different from regular-chess? [She's only half-joking here]
no subject
Well, there's regular chess, as you call it, then three-dimensional chess. Which I'm guessing you've never heard of. That's the one we play.
no subject
[Alright she wasn't expecting 3D chess. She makes a "what the fuck' sort of face] Chess is bad enough, they had to make it 3D? [A pause and she's curious despite herself] How do you play?
no subject
[ Because it really doesn't matter the difference in their ages, Jim still appreciates that she tries to comfort him to some degree. At her reaction to 3D chess, though, he snorts then laughs, grinning wide in amusement. ]
Chess is great, are you kidding? [ God, what were they teaching kids way back when. (No just kidding.) ] I can explain it to you, if you want me to, but it's easier in person. [
Also the mun doesn't know nearly enough to play it out either.]no subject
And then a mild look of surprise at the other before she becomes a little wary and uncertain. It's not like she'd never had friends besides her sister before, but her first instinct had been to respond asking if Mayu could come too. Or maybe to say she'd have to check with her first.
Either way, it had been a sudden, bitter reminder for her own loneliness. But considering she'd jsut gotten done reassuring kirk about not being alone, she can hardly sink into her own moment of despair. So, feeling more like she's forcibly clawing her way out of a hole, she huffs a little laugh and glances away]
I think you just want to kick someone's butt in chess to make yourself feel better. [a pause and she nods, looking back] But sure, why not. It could be a little fun. [She's joking, because she really is interested despite herself
and it's fine this mun knows fuck all about chess too] We could meet at the atrium?no subject
He chuckles a bit at her answer, acting as if he didn't even notice the way her expression faltered. ] Not sure it'd help feed my ego much to beat a beginner. [ Even if she were a natural, Jim's extremely skilled, so he's confident he wouldn't lose against her. ]
Alright, sounds good. [ He nods. ] Give me a couple of hours? I need to figure out a way to make a 3D chess board. [ He figures the pieces won't be as hard to come by. ] After that, I'll be good to go.
