[ Yet another new face to greet the network, and likely not for the first time, it's the face of someone who's clearly bent over backwards to try and figure out where he is and how he got here. To no avail, evidently. He's stranded, pretty much, he's managed to figure that much out.
But that's not even what's the most puzzling about all this. You see, traveling across the galaxy has made him more prone to accept that he can get snatched up, either on purpose or by accident, or even that he might trip over some dimension-breaking wormhole and end up in an alternate reality.
At least this one doesn't have another version of him (so far), so there's that.
But anyway. Onto trying to figure some things out, at least. ]
This is Captain James T. Kirk, of the USS Enterprise. I understand that likely means nothing to most of you, if not everyone, but I'll make it quick: the Enterprise is the flagship of the United Federation of Planets, operated by Starfleet, from the 23rd century, year 2263.
[ He'll skip on explaining the Federation or Starfleet for now. If anyone asks then he'll get into more detail. More pressing matters, though. ]
My ship is here, but my crew is not. Not unless I'm missing something, and if anyone can tell me where should I go to look for them, then I'd appreciate it. I... welcome the help of the Eluvio crew being on board to help me run my ship, [ No he doesn't. ] but I'd much rather have my crew, as you can likely imagine.
[ He sighs quietly, a show of frustration more than anything else. ]
On an unrelated note, would anyone mind taking a couple of hours to explain to me how currency works? I'm not... used to handling it. I'm crap at it too, if we're being completely honest. [ Seriously, does he really have to have a job? Ugh. ]
Other than that... well, I guess we're all stuck here, so I'd like to get to know everyone to some degree. So hit me up and let's chat sometime.
[ There, harmless and vague enough. And with a friendly smile, he leans in to end the feed. ]

un: rogue leader; voice
[ Yes, that's the thing he's focused on. ]
Never heard of the Federation, but I'm Commander Luke Skywalker of the Rebel Alliance. Nice to meet you.
no subject
And I've never heard of the Rebel Alliance, but it's nice to meet you too, Luke. Or do you prefer Commander? [ Jim tips his head curiously. ] What did you mean, it makes sense?
no subject
[ Luke chuckles and there's the sound of him shifting his weight on the other end. ]
I mean, if these anomalies can bring a starfighter, why not a cruiser? It's basically the same thing, just... bigger.
[ Science is not his strong point, sorry. ]
Don't know why the rest of your crew wouldn't get dragged with it, though. [ He has the unpleasant thought they might have been left behind. Yikes. ]
no subject
[ Although she does have a wide array of weaponry, it's for defense purposes only. ]
So far it's sounding like they stayed behind in my world. For whatever reason only I made it through. [ He shrugs. ] I guess it's not a bad thing, if it means they're not stranded here along with me.
no subject
[ Luke understands the concept. He just doesn't run into many of them since he's involved in a galaxy-spanning civil war. Makes science and exploration take a backburner, unfortunately. ]
On the other hand, if you had your crew they might be able to help you figure a way back home. But - yeah. I know the feeling. There are people I'd definitely rather be back home than halfway across the universe.
no subject
[ Jim on the other hand comes from a place where they've enjoyed peace for a long while, so technology and science has advanced in a lot of different ways. Simply a search for knowledge and discovery, rather than a need to fight, harm anyone or win any battle. ]
That's true. If I knew for sure that we could find a way back, then I'd want them here. But as it is... Well, I don't have much saying on the matter either way, so. I guess all I can do is wait and see what happens.
no subject
[ Luke points that out without a hint of resentment or mean spiritedness. ]
I mean, there's a lot of us here right? IF we all put our heads together, we could probably figure out something, right?
no subject
[ Jim can be a little optimistic, but he won't jump straight into believing they can do it. Too much of a disappointment if they don't succeed in the end. ]
Gotta start by getting to know everyone and gathering us all up. This, of course, assuming everyone who was brought here wants to go back.
no subject
[ Says the kid who never wants to set foot on Tatooine ever again. ]
no subject
[ Definitely not Jim's case, and he does want to go home badly, but it's easy for him to imagine that some people might not share in that sentiment. ]
no subject
[ That's OK, Luke doesn't think about a lot of things sometimes. ]
Guess this place is basically a second chance for them.
no subject
Something like that, yes. I mean, I can't say for sure it'll stay this way, but so far it seems like a more or less stable place. The kind of place where some people might not mind settling down.
no subject
[ Which is a minor gripe in the grand scheme of things, but also incredibly irritating as far as Luke is concerned. ]
But if you can deal with that, yeah. It's not terrible.
no subject
[ Not that Jim's assigned job is necessarily stupid, it just feels like a complete waste of his talents. Also not really something he wants to do. ]
I'm sort of hoping we can look into a job change around here. Some of these seem random at best, and a waste of some people's skills.
no subject
[ Luke isn't at all happy with their profession choices. He needs to find someone to complain at. ]
What do they have you doing, again?
no subject
[ Jim's seen books around. He can't help but be a little excited that those are still a thing around here, as wasteful as paper can be. ]
Bartending, apparently. Which of course has everything to do with being a captain. [ /sarcasm ]
no subject
[ Luke sounds pretty damn miserable about the idea. He wants action (or at least something more productive). ]
Bartending? For a starship captain? What kind of operation are they running?
no subject
[ Okay, this can't be weird just for him, right? Are all currency-dependant societies this ridiculous? ]
Apparently, yeah. Not sure if they thought it'd be a good fit for some reason or they just didn't have any other decent job for me. That, or they wanted me as far away from a job post where I could actually get more freedom and information access than they want me to have. [ He is definitely going with the latter. Not that it'll stop him, though. ]
no subject
[ Luke can't really believe it either but for entirely different reasons. His galaxy still uses money, after all. ]
You know, when you put it like that, that second option sounds a whole lot more likely...
[ Ugh. Luke makes a noise of frustration. ]
We should get together - start pooling our resources so we can figure out how many of us there are and if we can fix this thing.
no subject
Likelier than I'd want it to be, but also the more plausible. [ Much to his concern. ] Yeah, count me in. We can probably get a decent group together to at least brainstorm a little. Even if we end up not being able to do much for now, it's a start.
no subject
[ He sounds a bit like the farm boy he still is when he talks. ]
I spent way too much time just sitting around for the first part of my life, not about to do it now.
no subject
[ Also a bit of a farm boy sometimes, though he's worked that out of his system for the most part. He has to chuckle a bit at the last remark, though, seeing himself a lot in those words too. ]
Sounds like we're two peas in a pod so far, Luke.
no subject
[ Look, he's from a desert planet. ]
no subject
Peas in a pod. Alike. It's a very old saying where I come from.
no subject
[ Luke laughs. ]
Guess so. We should actually meet face-to-face rather than over comms.
