[ Yet another new face to greet the network, and likely not for the first time, it's the face of someone who's clearly bent over backwards to try and figure out where he is and how he got here. To no avail, evidently. He's stranded, pretty much, he's managed to figure that much out.

But that's not even what's the most puzzling about all this. You see, traveling across the galaxy has made him more prone to accept that he can get snatched up, either on purpose or by accident, or even that he might trip over some dimension-breaking wormhole and end up in an alternate reality.

At least this one doesn't have another version of him (so far), so there's that.

But anyway. Onto trying to figure some things out, at least. ]

This is Captain James T. Kirk, of the USS Enterprise. I understand that likely means nothing to most of you, if not everyone, but I'll make it quick: the Enterprise is the flagship of the United Federation of Planets, operated by Starfleet, from the 23rd century, year 2263.

[ He'll skip on explaining the Federation or Starfleet for now. If anyone asks then he'll get into more detail. More pressing matters, though. ]

My ship is here, but my crew is not. Not unless I'm missing something, and if anyone can tell me where should I go to look for them, then I'd appreciate it. I... welcome the help of the Eluvio crew being on board to help me run my ship, [ No he doesn't. ] but I'd much rather have my crew, as you can likely imagine.

[ He sighs quietly, a show of frustration more than anything else. ]

On an unrelated note, would anyone mind taking a couple of hours to explain to me how currency works? I'm not... used to handling it. I'm crap at it too, if we're being completely honest. [ Seriously, does he really have to have a job? Ugh. ]

Other than that... well, I guess we're all stuck here, so I'd like to get to know everyone to some degree. So hit me up and let's chat sometime.

[ There, harmless and vague enough. And with a friendly smile, he leans in to end the feed. ]

I've been trying to think of it that way, too.

If it helps, I think there are a lot of experienced space...travelers--[He sounds uncertain when he says this, like he isn't sure what the correct term would be.]--among the newer groups like us. You should be able to find the help you need if you ask around.

I'm an experienced space traveler myself. [ Not really sure if he'd go with that term himself, but it'll do. And he is amused with the way the guy puts it. ]

People seem pretty prompt and willing to help so far, so I'm sure I won't have a lot of issues getting settled in. [ Even if that's far from what he wants to do right now. ]

How long have you been here?

Just a few days. Almost a week now. [There's a quiet sigh.] It still feels like a dream sometimes. I think it might take longer for it to really sink in.

Um, I should introduce myself. I'm Yuuri Katsuki. Do you prefer to be called Captain Kirk?

It would be nice if it were a dream, wouldn't it? [ Jim lives under no such illusion, though. ]

Oh. No, Jim's fine. [ He smiles. ] Can I ask what your world's like?

Jim it is, then. [Though he's still on audio mode, there's a softer quality to his voice that suggests he's smiling, too.]

My world? Compared to what everyone else says about theirs, I think the one I'm from is pretty normal. Traveling in space like this isn't possible yet.

Well, mine's pretty normal to me, so that's all just a matter of perspective. [ He shrugs. No such thing as 'normal' anyway. ]

Are you from Earth, or some other different planet? Your name sounds Japanese, but... well, you never know.

[There's a soft gasp, before the feed from Yuuri's end abruptly switches from voice only to video mode.]

It is Japanese. You're from Earth? There's only a few people here that have even heard of our world.

Really? [ Jim raises an eyebrow, intrigued and amused, smiling at the face that shows up on the screen. ]

I've talked to a few so far who are from Earth too. Just... different points in time, or alternate dimensions. And yes, I am from Earth, even if technically I wasn't born there. I'm from Iowa, United States.

I'm from Hasetsu, Japan. You might not have heard of it--it's a small city, compared to the famous ones like Tokyo.

[He nods, pursing his lips slightly.] Mm. I know what you mean about the different points in time. There's someone on board who's from the nineteenth century.

Never heard of it, no. I do know some places in Japan but I couldn't possibly know them all. Besides, the Japan in our worlds might not even be that similar.

Yeah, that's... ancient to me. About four hundred years of difference. Which year are you from?

It's 20xx back home. [Yuuri says, naming a year around 2016 or so.] Still a big difference, but at least I sort of know my way around computers.

What's Earth like in the future? It sounds as if space travel's become a regular thing in your time.

[ Jim chuckles a bit. ] That's a good start, yes. [ He can't even begin to imagine how a place like this must be for someone who might barely know about electricity as it is. ]

It is, yes. Earth is part of the United Federation of Planets, which is largely a peaceful alliance that encompasses several worlds, species, governments and cultures. Humans are still the biggest demographic back on Earth, but there are other species too, as well as on other planets and starbases. Once space travel became commonplace, it was only a matter of time until humans branched out into other places besides Earth.

Oh, that doesn't sound too bad.

[He looks particularly relieved at the word "peaceful".]

What's it like, traveling between so many planets like that? Do you have a favorite?

It's pretty great, yes.

[ Has its ups and downs, as with everything, dangerous situations and trying times, but overall it's not bad at all. ]

I like it. I like it a lot. Since I started, traveling's all I've ever known. It has its moments but I wouldn't trade it for anything. As for a favorite planet... [ He smiles. ] Well, as they say, no place like home. And for me, that would be my ship.

I've only done traveling for competitions, but the sight seeing was always fun when we could squeeze in the time for it. I bet it's way more exciting when it's whole other planets you're visiting.

[He smiles at Jim's answer.]

Then it's a good thing your ship was brought here, too. Does it look like the Eluvio?

What sort of competitions? [ Jim perks up a little with clear interest. ] Well, guess at least being here will provide you with that opportunity. That's a nice silver lining.

[ Hopefully they won't just run into a lot of life-threatening situations. Although space travel can still be plenty interesting even with those. ]

I guess it is, yes. [ He smiles warmly. ] No, it's... well, smaller. Eluvio reminds me more of a starbase than a starship. The Enterprise is... There's a saucer section, then the engineering and main engine section, then the warp nacelles. [ As he speaks, he tries to more or less draw the Enterprise's design on thin air. ] If you want to, I can just show her to you. Much easier that way.

It's nothing space related. [Yuuri ducks his head.] They're for figure skating.

[Then, he perks up, clearly interested.]

You don't mind? Eluvio is the only one I've seen so far. I think some others have their ships here, too, but I didn't know if asking would be rude or not. [He's letting his excitement get the better of him, though, so he settles down, just smiling.] Um, I mean, I'd love to see your ship.

Sounds impressive. I've never seen a competition like that.

[ Though they do get a lot of snow and ice in Iowa, so Jim's not a complete stranger to it. But definitely nothing competition-level. ]

No, I don't mind. [ The Enterprise is awesome, alright, that level of excitement is more than adequate. ] Whenever you've got the time, I can swing by with a shuttle and show you around. Just say when. How does that sound?

It's stressful, but it can be fun seeing the programs everyone's been working on. [The smile fades slightly, when he remembers where he is.] Ah... was working on, I guess I should say now.

[Sometimes it just hits him out of nowhere, just like that.]

That sounds great, Jim. [It's a bit of a struggle, trying to muster up the same level of enthusiasm again, but Yuuri tries.] I should give you some time to settle in before I take you up on that.

I'm sure it was. [ Jim offers an understanding smile. ] You could try and set up something similar around here. Even if it's just you doing it, at least it's... familiar.

[ Jim doesn't even know if there are ice rinks on board, but it probably shouldn't be hard to make one happen. ]

Alright, sounds good to me. Couple days should be enough, I can let you know then.

Viktor's planning on getting a rink set up on the ship, I think. [The promise of something familiar does seem to cheer him up.] You should come skate with us sometime, if you want.

Sounds great. [He manages to smile this time.] I'll talk to you soon?

I'd be up for that, if you manage to set it up. Although I can't promise anything particularly impressive.

[ Still, he'd have fun. Which for him is what matters. ]

Right. Talk to you soon. [ He nods, returning the smile. ] Nice meeting you, by the way.

Well, Viktor and I should be around the rink if you need help figuring it out.

[His smile is a little brighter now.]

It was nice meeting you, too.
