eluvio | Project 1: [voice] un: hello

[The Eluvio definitely made him nervous, bringing back memories of a different highly technological setting, but Emil had already made the decision to keep his weird skull-like head up and carry on. That was all there was to do, right? So even though he was scared, he was not only going to wear the strange clothes they gave him and try his best at his first ever real job, but he was going to... try to talk to new people.

It still felt like a real accomplishment, even if he did feel a lot safer not using the video feed. He just didn't want to scare anyone..]

Hello, everyone! My name is Emil.

[There. A perfectly normal thing to say! He could do this. He was going to ignore his anxieties and be brave like his friends.]

This is really confusing, but... as long as I'm here, I want to help! I can use magic, and I can fight with it, so if anyone needs a helping hand, like in a dangerous situation... I could do that.

[He can feel himself growing more and more self-conscious, so he hurries to wrap it up.]

Oh! And... does anyone know where I could get some gloves? Really small ones?

[Ah. Yuuri supposes he shouldn't be that surprised, considering Emil had been thinking of hiding in his room earlier.]

I'm...glad you feel that way, Emil. Even if this isn't your home world, I think you'll have plenty of opportunities to see things on the Eluvio. And there are people who are willing to get to know you here. [Yuuri smiles at him now, trying his best to sound convincing.] I'm sure Viktor would be interested in meeting you, too.

[Consider Emil convinced. The cheerfulness radiates in his body language.]

Oh, sure! We only talked over the voice thing before, but I'd be happy to. There's a lot of stuff I need to see anyway, like the atrium, and the rock garden, and all the shops.

[Success! Yuuri himself knows how difficult it can be to overcome fears, and he's glad Emil is able to work through his right now.]

It's a big ship. You'll definitely have a lot to explore. Oh, we're here. [The elevator lets out a cheerful ding as they reach the Shopping Centre and the doors slide open. Yuuri glances at his companion.] Ready?

Ready!

[His body language still radiates anxiety as the doors slide open and he floats close to them, intending to take a quick peek. Better safe than sorry, right?

That's forgotten as the sight of the shopping center almost immediately overwhelms him. He was expecting a marketplace like the ones back home, not something so glamorous and filled with lights.]

Is... is this... how did they get it to look so pretty?!

[Any misgivings Yuuri might have had about bringing Emil out of his room is dashed by that reaction alone.]

Pretty? [Yuuri only hesitates for a second before placing a hand on Emil's back and gently steering him out of the elevator and into the Shopping Centre proper.] Oh, I guess the decorations are pretty nice. They didn't have shopping places like this in your world?

[He's actually more impressed by the variety of shops on board, considering they're out in space for long stretches of time.]

There are marketplaces, like in the middle of towns where people sell weapons and meat and things like that, but it's nothing like this!

[Emil goes where he's guided, but he keeps getting distracted and floating here and there.]

Wow... you know, Grimoire Weiss once told me a story about how there used to be electricity, and lights in the old cities so bright they made the nights look like midday, but I thought he was making it up. I guess I owe him an apology, if I ever see him again.

[That makes Yuuri pause, brows raised in surprise.]

Wait. There "used to be" electricity? You mean, your world had technology like this before but not anymore?

[Emil finally pulls himself away from a shop window full of clothes so he can answer.]

Oh, yeah! I don't really remember what the world used to be like, but Weiss does. He'd come up with all kinda of crazy stories, like about how people in the old world would fry scorpions and eat them on sticks. I still think that he was lying, though. Those things are HUGE!

[At "huge" he holds his arms out, suggesting the scorpions in his world are about the size of a large dog.]

[Ugh. Yuuri pulls a face immediately. While he has nothing against bugs in general (unless they try to bite him), he wouldn't be too keen on meeting one that size, let alone eat it.] I kind of hope he was.

[As they walk through the Shopping Centre, Yuuri keeps half an eye out for children's clothing shops.] Do you know why your world doesn't have electricity anymore?

[It's only somewhat complicated by Emil stopping to peek in nearly every shop window. Everything is so colorful and interesting, he can't help himself.

He does pause at the question and hovers uncertainly in place, giving it some real thought. He's forgotten so much.]

I don't really remember much about the old world, I'm afraid. Sorry. All I have to go on are the reports and Weiss's stories.

You see... a strange disease was spreading, and it was making people all over the world crazy and violent. They called it "the Legion" after awhile. And so many people were dying that everyone thought humanity was doomed. And so, almost all of the humans left in the world underwent a process that was supposed to keep their souls preserved until the last of the disease burned itself out.

[Emil's voice had been fairly quiet as he told a very abbreviated version of the story of how the world ended, but he tries to inject a little more cheer in for the last part. No point dragging this first meeting down with such a depressing story!]

So, my home still has relics from what used to be, huge pieces of metal bridges and stuff like that, but a world that's lasted over a thousand years with no people in it doesn't really have time to maintain thin copper wires or huge crates that move, right?
