Project 1: [voice] un: hello

[The Eluvio definitely made him nervous, bringing back memories of a different highly technological setting, but Emil had already made the decision to keep his weird skull-like head up and carry on. That was all there was to do, right? So even though he was scared, he was not only going to wear the strange clothes they gave him and try his best at his first ever real job, but he was going to... try to talk to new people.

It still felt like a real accomplishment, even if he did feel a lot safer not using the video feed. He just didn't want to scare anyone..]

Hello, everyone! My name is Emil.

[There. A perfectly normal thing to say! He could do this. He was going to ignore his anxieties and be brave like his friends.]

This is really confusing, but... as long as I'm here, I want to help! I can use magic, and I can fight with it, so if anyone needs a helping hand, like in a dangerous situation... I could do that.

[He can feel himself growing more and more self-conscious, so he hurries to wrap it up.]

Oh! And... does anyone know where I could get some gloves? Really small ones?

Magic? [ She seems... disbelieving, but hopeful, if that makes any damn sense. After all, if this place was real enough, and the way she was told she arrived to be believed, magic might not be too far out, right? But the far more scientific part wants to know what the hell he means by 'magic.'

Hopefully Emil doesn't mind quite the grilling... ]

There are plenty of shops around.. I haven't gone shopping specifically for gloves.. or gloves for men, but they shouldn't be too hard to find.

[He wouldn't! It's kind of nice, actually. Being able to do voice communications like this means he can talk to people without worrying that he scared them.]

Yeah, a few people have said there's an accessories shop, and styluses, and a few other things I can use.

And yeah, magic. It's not that common where I'm from, but... here I am!

Styluses? [ Ok, kid, now she's really tempted to switch to video and see why he would need a stylus or something. But then another art of her knows that's probably a little too nosey in a way, so she'll refrain for a little while longer. She's getting better at this socially acceptable thing, or well.. the culture shock of not having as much leeway to just be an absolute dick head when she wanted to be just because. ]

That explains a particular amount of nothing. [ Bluntness, Re-L. ] Was it passed down in your family, or something?

[It's okay. Bluntness he can deal with. Straightfoward people were easier to talk to; he always knows where he stands with them.]

Oh, sorry. But in a way, you're right... I got most of it from my sister.

Mmnn... [ Man, this is really making her think. Maybe she wasn't the oddest thing in the galaxy if she gave herself a shot at it - ]

What can you do with it? I know I'm asking a lot of questions but this isn't exactly common, where I'm from.

Oh, that's okay! A lot of people asked, and I did offer.

I can make these sort of... bubble things, that can shield people and carry them a short distance, and I can fire magic at enemies, and heal a little bit, and fly...

[A short pause, then.]

I can turn people to stone and back too, but I'd rather not do it if I don't have to.

Stone, hm? Well if you can change them back I don't know why there's such concern about doing it. [ She'd love to be able to turn certain people to stone if only so she wouldn't have to deal with them ever again, but this is most likely why Re-L Mayer was never given special powers as such by the universe: It knew better than to do that. Either way she now kind of feels obligated, given the fact that he seems so...

You may want to be careful who you advertise these skills to, you know. Who knows who may try to use them for whatever means they may need to their ends. Ship's crew or otherwise.

None that I've met recently, no. However, the captain and crew of this ship, still mysterious as they are, may not have the best intentions for everyone brought here under whatever circumstance they were. [ Why the hell Re-L is so concerned about warning people all of a sudden is not entirely evident, but hey, here they were anyway, with some weird semblance of trying to care about people breaking through Re-L's generally pissy attitude. ]

What we generally have the most of are military types from what I can tell, so good luck on that front.

I don't think they had any intentions. It was an accident that we're here, right? A... an anomaly?

[He's still not clear on exactly how he's here, but he accepted the basic answer they gave him.]

So it's not really their fault.

If you like to believe what people feed you, then I won't blow your world apart. However, it may land you in some pretty shitty situations around here, as a warning. You have powers that make you unique, so I'm sure you're no stranger to people subjecting you to things that wouldn't do to others.

[ Presumptive as hell, yes, but it seems to be the same across worlds so far as she's seen at the moment. ]

[Good job, Re-L, you hit the nail on the head. Emil doesn't answer right away as he tries to think of a response. The crew who run this ship couldn't possibly have the same intentions as the group who made magic weapons out of him and his sister, right?

He's had enough of hurting people, inadvertently or otherwise. He doesn't want to be a tool of destruction anymore.

When he finally answers her, his voice is smaller, more upset.]

I... I guess you're right. I don't know much about anything here. But I won't use my powers to hurt people, no matter what.

[ Welp, that hadn't entirely been what she'd been expecting to get back if she's honest. Sure, he'd sounded young, but it still shocks her a little when he sounds upset in his response. She's not good with anything to do with emotions, and really the only emotions she's had to deal with regularly are Vincent's and Pino's weird, fledgling robo-emotions, so - ]

I'm not saying it's an assured thing that someone will take advantage of your powers or you entirely... However, I would be careful.

[ A short pause, and then - ] I went on a mission for the Eluvio not too long ago to retrieve a Relic and the mission ended in an unexpected end to the planet. It isn't what was intended by anyone who signed up for the mission but we cannot be sure that isn't what was intended by the higher-ups in the fleet.

Oh, no...

[A whole planet? Just gone? What would even be the upside to something that awful, if it were planned?]

But why would anyone want to cause that much destruction?

That is the question. I'm not entirely sure, but I know that all of us who went on the mission did not intend for that to be how it ended. Ending an entire warring race had never crossed my mind, even if we were the team to infiltrate and grab the thing ourselves.

[ A small pause, and an audible sigh - she's been struggling with this whole thing for a bit, Emil, sorry. ]

Long and short: This is why we have reason to question and caution new people like you. So that people can be.. aware and present when making decisions on the information given to them by the crew.

Wow... I'm really sorry you had to be in a mess like that. I hope you don't blame yourself for anything.

[He's talking a little out of personal experience, but he means it. If it were him in her shoes, he'd be wracked with self-doubt and guilt.]

I was back here and getting my arm taken care of while others were down on the planet getting what refugees that they could... I guess the only regret is that we went in on only the incomplete information that we had been provided.

Though, before, we didn't really have a reason to doubt what we were being given, either. [ Now, though? Her maybe unsubstantiated paranoia about this place may not be so unbelievable after all. ]

Well... maybe it was just a mistake. Maybe the captain didn't know what was going to happen either.

[He's being naive again, he knows he is, but in a way it's easier than questioning who's flying this thing and what their intentions are. He just doesn't know enough yet to say for sure that this girl is right.]

One can hope, but I personally don't think it was such an accident. And if this ship committed genocide, even passively, over some Relic... [ She doesn't complete the sentence, but the intent in still there she thinks. There's no need to put too much out there on the network, considering.

Since Emil sounded so young, perhaps a little like Pino, she'd just felt it appropriate to warn him in some strange place in her that's discovering things like caring. ]

However, since your powers can also be used to help, there's some good in all of this anyway.

I really hope that's not the case. But I guess we'll just have to hang together and see what happens next!
