Project 1: [voice] un: hello
[The Eluvio definitely made him nervous, bringing back memories of a different highly technological setting, but Emil had already made the decision to keep his weird skull-like head up and carry on. That was all there was to do, right? So even though he was scared, he was not only going to wear the strange clothes they gave him and try his best at his first ever real job, but he was going to... try to talk to new people.
It still felt like a real accomplishment, even if he did feel a lot safer not using the video feed. He just didn't want to scare anyone..]
Hello, everyone! My name is Emil.
[There. A perfectly normal thing to say! He could do this. He was going to ignore his anxieties and be brave like his friends.]
This is really confusing, but... as long as I'm here, I want to help! I can use magic, and I can fight with it, so if anyone needs a helping hand, like in a dangerous situation... I could do that.
[He can feel himself growing more and more self-conscious, so he hurries to wrap it up.]
Oh! And... does anyone know where I could get some gloves? Really small ones?

[He perks up immensely. Dude, you just made his entire day.]
Oh, yes! Yes, please! How much does it cost? I think I have some credits...
no subject
[ Vaas clicks his tongue. ]
You want to trade me a coconut for it maybe, I'll take it. If not, that's okay too.
no subject
[That part hasn't sunk in yet. He has so much to figure out that the whys and hows and wheres have taken a backseat while he focuses on smaller, manageable worries.]
If I had a coconut I'd give you one, but I'm fresh out. All I showed up with was my staff and a cloak, but that probably wouldn't fit you.
[Plus it's kinda ugly.]
no subject
[ He can probably go scrounge up some acceptable fruit from the food vendors. Maybe the black market. ]
We're on a spaceship. Didn't they tell you? Look out the window, hermano. All you'll see are stars.
no subject
[Wait. Did he say stars? It was easy enough to ignore the quiet darkness outside his window, but...
Those are stars?
Slowly, as if scared he'll break the window and bring all that massive space rushing into his room, Emil approaches the window and peeks out.]
Ohh...
[It just goes on forever. Blackness, punctuated by infinite points of light that sparkle like jewels.
There's a long pause as Emil tries to process what he's finally aware of. He's not on Earth anymore. He's not on ANY world anymore. He's literally part of somebody's sky. It's terrifying, but it's also the most exciting thing ever for a little kid.]
Oh my god!
no subject
He doesn't affirm that those are stars. He sees him looking out the window. He just smiles, kind of enjoying his wonder. But then some kind of confusion happens and Vaas shakes his head. ]
Not god, no. My name's Vaas.
no subject
[It takes him a moment to tear himself away from the vastness of space and realize what Vaas is saying.]
Oh, no! I was just saying... everything here is so different, but in a good way.
[Mostly. He does miss his ragtag group of friends.]
no subject
What way is that?
no subject
[He ums and uhs a little bit as he tries to think of a way to describe it. Everything about where he came from was always getting just a little bit thinner with each passing year. A little bit slower. A little less enjoyable. Nier had said more than once that their world was dying, and he'd always insisted there were still good things in it, but it didn't always come out so convincing.
Which way is this place better? Well... nearly all of them, if he wanted to be brutally honest.
He didn't.
So instead he just opts for a burst of childish enthusiasm. It isn't entirely a front; he is happy about a lot of the cool stuff here.]
Everything is just... more advanced, and more sleek, and there's so much variety! All kinds of different people, and shops, and probably places too. I haven't really had time to check.
no subject
Yeah, okay. I can see that. I agree. [ But there's also plenty wrong with it too. Like: ] But there's no open sky. No wind. Everything's all contained in this ship. It's okay, but it's nothing like my island.
[ No matter where he goes and what he sees, nothing will ever be as great as Rook to Vaas. ]
no subject
Besides, Vaas is talking about other interesting stuff and Emil's imagination takes flight, thinking about old stories of shipwrecked heroes who turned their prison into an idyllic home.]
You came from an island? What was that like? Did you do a lot of fishing?
no subject
[ But then it clears and he's right back to normal. ]
We fish. There are lots of sharks and tigers. Coconuts too. Lots of mangoes. Palm trees. Some bears. People like to do a lot of snorkeling on my island. Sometimes I set them up with little adventures for free.
[ And by adventures, he means he buries them at the shoreline and lets the tide drown them when it comes in. ]
no subject
[This sounds exactly like what he was picturing. Sunny beaches, exotic fruit, wild animals. Heaven to a kid like him.
He wants to hear all about it.]
no subject
[ He starts ticking them off on his fingers. ]
Tigers, bears, sharks, crocodiles, tapirs, snakes, panthers, cassowaries, komodo dragons, eagles, macaques, deer, dingoes.
[ He could keep going but he stops with a shrug. ]
It's a great place. Much better than this shithole.
no subject
Well... I guess it couldn't be an improvement for everyone, unfortunately. But maybe we're close to your home and you can go back soon? Or maybe... there's a way to set up something similar here? It's a big ship, after all.
no subject
You might be onto something there, hermano. I will think on it.
no subject
If you do figure something out, let me know! And I bet I'm not the only one who'd be really excited to meet a... a real bear, or go adventuring, or shoot a bow...
[Good job, Vaas. You got the little nerd all excited.]
no subject
[ Possibly because he'll figure out how to get a bear—or an alien bear equivalent—on board and let it rampage through the ship. ]
Go to the big tree in the atrium. Your tiny gloves will be there next to the weird flowering bush.
no subject
They will?
[Wait.]
You mean as a... a present? Oh, wow! Thank you, Vaas! Thanks so much!
[Emil's day: Made.]
no subject
[ This has probably been the most normal, sane conversation Vaas has had in a long time. But the gloves will be there when Emile goes to collect them, just as promised. ]
Goodbye for now.
no subject
[He disconnects and, overcome with curiosity, sneaks out a little later to get them.
So cool. What a nice guy that was.]
