What waits for you, back where you came from?
You can be as specific or nonspecific as you like, really. A person, a place, a thing, a concept, a task. A belief. A dream.
Nothing.
I'm just curious, I guess.
Also, for those who don't wish to give out even vaguely personal information to unknown strangers in an unknown place: how many of you are from pre-spaceflight planets?

<3 (where is the lie)
Ah, thank you for the clarification.

We all come from homeworlds now. I keep being surprised at how science fiction my life's gotten over the last week and some.

Still, this is where I am! So I'll adapt, and I'll see if there isn't some kind of solution for getting back to the life I was leading before. I have enough apologies to make by the time I get back even now. I imagine they'll only get harder to swallow the longer I'm gone.

Though the more I've talked with the crew here, the less it seems anyone ever goes back. Away, yes, if you stay behind or find another ship or, apparently, die. Yet they all say the anomalies only go one way. People show up, but they don't go missing. So they say!

So they say. Did anyone tell you how long these anomalies have been happening?

Not yet. No one's had a time estimate, just "for long enough." Doesn't mean someone won't have a better idea.

I really dislike these vague answers.

So do I. Finding better people to ask seems like a logical step, but anyone ranked has been out of reach for anywhere I've been. Not that I expected otherwise. It's just frustrating, on top of being told this is normal enough that the ship's prepared to assign us to work at random and that "this has proven to work best historically."
