Okay so. Nuclear warfare is the exchange or use of nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are incredibly powerful explosives. They come in two types fission bombs and fusion bombs. Fission are more common because they're easier to build.
The way they work is, uh. You need fissile material like uranium or plutonium and you basically use a conventional explosive to ram the fissile material into itself and create an ongoing nuclear reaction which creates a nuclear explosion.
Kind of. Basically the smaller explosion forces the nuclear material, say, uranium, together to create nuclear fission, which causes a massive release of energy. Since that's all explosions are, a release of energy.
So, the very first nuclear weapon worked like this...
Kinda. The problem is that this explosion also leaves behind residue called fallout that poisons people, the land, water, and stuff. It's kind of awful. Nuclear weapons are considered so destructive that using one is a last resort and might cause another country with nuclear weapons to retaliate. Mutually assured destruction.
Yeah. I mean. People have them but they don't use because they don't want to destroy the world but they have to have them to make sure other people don't use them... It's weird.

Uh, does that make sense so far?

I was unaware that the subject was so complicated.
[ Andraste help him. This is a bolt in the dark, but he's trying. ]
You are saying that a smaller explosive is used to create a larger one?
i love this thread
So, the very first nuclear weapon worked like this...
(EXPLOSVE-(U235)=====)U235)
(BOOM!==(U235=>==)U235)
Then a nuclear explosion.
:)
And this is preferred over other methods because of the strength of the explosion?
