[ These newfangled talking devices are hard. Get off his lawn, young man. ]
The aliens on this vessel are dangerous. They destroyed their world via this nuclear warfare and after finding sanctuary here have begun slaughtering the human passengers.
[ This is... new. He'd read up on Oros by finding the available mission parameters. There wasn't anything about nukes, but he has heard some scuttlebutt.
Not that he was feeling particularly kind toward the aliens he's seen, but it's good to know his instincts are still on point. ]
Yes. There are others on board who have seen what was left of the victims firsthand. There are moving images on this device from weeks ago if you wish to review them.
[ Just don't ask him how to access them, for Andraste's sake. ]
But there are complications. Secret human agents working on their side toward our eradication.
[ Basically, it's the equivalent of elves and he is so fucking tired of elves. ]
[ He's assuming that means video and he's definitely going to go back and look. He hasn't finished completely. There's just not enough time in the day. ]
What do you mean secret human agents? How do you now this?
[ This is actually turning out worse than he initially thought. ]
Humans who profess to have the best interests of their race at heart but are secretly in league with the aliens.
[ Alternatively, human agents of the Qun. It's like Thedas all over again, only the magic here is incomprehensible to him and leaves him at a disadvantage to combat it. ]
I've spoken to those who have seen what the aliens do. And I have feigned allegiance with them in order to speak with them directly.
It is not unheard of it to use explosives in excavating operations. And some use small incendiary devices in combat, though it's more common to rely on steel and magic.
I've no blighted idea, save that these people are civilians, not soldiers, and having little experience with war they feel pity toward the survivors of a race that destroyed their own world.
[ Does Cullen's exasperation with civilians come through here? Because Maker, does he feel it. They're almost worse than nobles. ]
Okay so. Nuclear warfare is the exchange or use of nuclear weapons. Nuclear weapons are incredibly powerful explosives. They come in two types fission bombs and fusion bombs. Fission are more common because they're easier to build.
The way they work is, uh. You need fissile material like uranium or plutonium and you basically use a conventional explosive to ram the fissile material into itself and create an ongoing nuclear reaction which creates a nuclear explosion.
Kind of. Basically the smaller explosion forces the nuclear material, say, uranium, together to create nuclear fission, which causes a massive release of energy. Since that's all explosions are, a release of energy.
So, the very first nuclear weapon worked like this...
