Others have been mentioning dates of birth and so I was wondering: what do your people do in order to celebrate the day someone is born, or named, or comes into their own?

Also, how do your people celebrate the lives that have ended?

Those count, too. The festival takes place during the summer.

I don't know when mine is exactly and I'm not sure I'm up to to the task of deciding when it should be, just now. Besides calendars are more or less planet specific, other than larger groupings of time, so I would have to find a way to adapt that.

[The name sounds vaguely familiar...it takes Yuuri a second to recall where he'd heard it. He switches over to the voice option immediately.]

One of your friends from home?

Yes.

He was the pilot on our last mission. We all would have died much earlier if not for him.

[yokunaru]

[There's a hitch of breath.] I'm sorry...

[And then a pause.] I...sort of knew about what happened. Jyn mentioned it when I talked to her before. Did--were you and all of your teammates on the mission...?

[He trails off, unable to bring himself to say it.]

[ Cassian stops typing and switches his end to audio as well. ]

We knew what we were getting into. And it seems history is on our side; there are people here, from after, that say the mission was a success.

But, yes. To answer your question.

That's what Jyn said, too. [He's quiet for a moment.]

The festival that I was talking about-- it's usually celebrated in the summer, but we could always adapt it and do something to remember your friends now, if you want. We're--we're far from home anyway.

I'm sorry I realize this probably sounds very callous but. We haven't lead easy lives; I don't think any of us expected to live long. A civil war and I, at least, was on the wrong side of power.

I wouldn't mind doing something similar. I find myself at a bit of a loss, honestly.

I don’t think it’s callous. [Yuuri says quietly. It’s always hard whenever he’s reminded of the lives that Cassian and Jyn had to endure, especially now that he thinks of them as friends.]

I’ll tell you what we do for the Bon festival and you can decide if it’s something you want to do.

[ It means more than Cassian would like to admit, but part of that is not being sure when he started caring again what other people thought of him in the first place.

Probably around when he started caring about other people in general. ]

[He takes a moment to consider the traditions that could translate well onto the ship.]

The spirits are supposed to visit during the Bon festival--that's the important part. We hang up lanterns to guide them while they're in the physical world. On the last night, we send them back with a fire ceremony or with floating paper lanterns--one lantern for each spirit.

Hmm. [ He wishes, now, that he knew more about Jedhan customs regarding the dead. Maybe Chirrut would arrive and he'd be able to ask.

If that's something you want to do...I don't know if we'll be able to find floating lanterns on board, but we can make do with what we have.
