A number of things.

First, I want to know how many people are familiar with ninja and the shinobi world.

Second, I’m interested in increasing my knowledge when it comes to the technology on the ship.

Third, in connection with the second point, is there a way to stop others from being able to send messages to your communicator? Stopping all of them temporarily would also be acceptable.

I'm a college student. I'm studying Japanese Literature, maybe to become an editor. [ little he knows that will never happen ]

What's college?

It's an educational institution that gives its students a higher education than what is required by law.

I finished my education years ago and none of it was required by any kind of law. Your system is completely different to mine.

Really? Well, I guess it can be weird to some. Educational system changes from country to country, too.

In my country, our society highly values education in order to integrate the working class, and the labor market actually demands people who have achieved some form of higher education. We are very competitive.

So your country puts pressure on its young people to pursue non-mandatory but still necessary education in order to compete on a global scale? That I can understand.

And "editors" are in demand, then?

12 years are mandatory. College isn't, but yes, there is pressure to continue our studies exactly for that reason.

I can't say they are in demand. But I love books and I want to help others creating amazing stories.

Well, technically nine.

Elementary school is 6 years, junior high school is three. High school is another three years, and though it isn't mandatory, most finish it since it's just a continuation of junior high.

That's too long. That system wouldn't work in my world.

Better to go out and get relevant experience earlier on in life.

that sort of thing doesn't work in my world, though. We need to know what we are doing in theory to apply the knowledge.

I won't be able to be an editor without the knowledge I gained over the years.

You think it's more effective to learn that through books rather than through a mentor? Even if your field isn't too useful or profitable, there must be others that share your passion.

Just in the University of Tokyo there are over 30000 students. That's just one college, and there are many more in just Tokyo city. It's impossible for everyone to have a mentor, though we can have one - it's an advantage.

Our education system is not perfect, but we are many students who want all sort of careers. This method provides some sort of equality among all students. In this competitive life, we are all given the same tools and we make the best we can with them. [ very generally speaking. This education system has many flaws as well ]

To say that your system is competitive while also saying you try to have equality among students sounds almost contradictory. For us, it might be even more merit-based.

If you fall behind, you're left behind. It's not useful to pretend that life will get easier once training is over, so training shouldn't be too easy either. At least that's how it was for my generation.

Perhaps we can afford to be softer with the next ones.

Well- It's a bit difficult to explain it since it always sounded so logical to me. But for example, you teach two people how to cut an apple, which means both were given this information fairly. But what they do with this information is different - and the one who studied more about cutting apples, who tried to understand it or who managed to get a mentor, will be able to provide more. Both had the same equal information, but one applied it better.

What did you learn in your world? More than ninja skills?

I understand the concept of consistent opportunity. My world just promotes a greater level of independence and personal responsibility at a younger age. [ This is an understatement. ]

There are a lot of things involved in that. Math, physics. Things like literature and history were taught to me more at home by my family.

[anthropophagite]

Ah, I see. We are more dependent, true, if only because they wish to be certain we learn what is necessary the way they believe to be the best.

I also had those. Science isn't my forte, naturally I'm more literature inclined. I'm no good at physical subjects either, so I think the whole ninja training would definitively not fit me.

You're really painting an image of yourself as a soft delicate scholar.
