[Video] UN: Komaeda

[The video starts with a close up of Komaeda's face as he's messing with the settings. It's advanced technology he's not familiar with, but it didn't take him long to get it going. Nothing ever takes him long to figure out when he tries.

He leans away and offers a smile, but it's a smile that doesn't quite reach his eyes. He's tired. There's a weight there. People who are familiar with him might notice it's a little less carefree than he usually is. But then it's only to be expected.]

Hello! This is quite the interesting thing to be suddenly rushed through. They said anomalies were the cause, but isn't that a bit curious? "Anomaly" is such a vague term. It's the sort of thing you see on TV used to hand wave fantastical concepts they don't want the audience to think of too much. So is there something not being explained here?

[Of course he barrels straight to the delicate question.]

But, what do I know? There's a lot of surprising things happening all at once. In fact, at this point I wouldn't be surprised if I was told we were in some sort of MMO! Being in some sort of elaborate program would make more sense than not anyway.

[He goes quiet for a moment, his expression far away lost in thought. It takes him a moment to remember the camera and go back to his train of thought.]

Ah, since I was just recently welcomed to this little expedition, I should introduce myself. My name is Komaeda Nagito. There's not really anything else to say, I'm a bit luckier than most people?

[ why do you have such specific scenarios in your mind... ]

it's an experience at first, but after being here for a while, I think I'd change my mind. [ he isn't excited at all, truthfully. being stuck here is a huge problem, to him and to a lot of people. They just don't know it yet ] If all of this is real, I suppose we are all pioneers but... uhm... [ at what cost?


Kaneki touches his own chin ]

I'm sorry. Staying positive is important, I am just overwhelmed, I guess.

Oh! Of course, it's normal to miss friends and family and what's familiar. I can understand. It really is all quite overwhelming! Even i find it so.

[anthropophagite]

Aha, you seem to be rather relaxed. [ kaneki waves his hand ] Not that it's a bad thing.

In any case, since we are new and all, have you found anything exciting to do around here? [ besides visiting the planet, though he supposes that counts as well. ]

[despairing_hope]

Not particularly. But then the only thing I've really doneed so far is explore a little. The ship is rather big and a little much when you haven't been here for more than a short while.

Have you found anything?

[ he shakes his head ] Just the residential area. I'm still getting familiar with the layout, and I'm focusing on important places like the med bay, library and such. [ library is a priority ok ]

[despairing_hope]

Oh! Is there actually a physical library? I had assumed it might all be digital or something.

[anthropophagite]

I'm... still looking for it, actually. There has to be a library, books are important - to touch and to keep them and to share. [ kaneki is a huge book nerd, he'll be sad if there isn't an actual library with books on the fleet ]

[despairing_hope]

I completely agree!

[Though Komaeda wouldn't describe himself as a book nerd he did love to read liked the peace and quiet of libraries. Books were safe and can't do anything bad randomly.]

There's a comfort in holding a book rather than a screen.

[anthropophagite]

Exactly! A book that you actually own becomes more important than just words on a screen.

Do you like to read as well, Komaeda-san?

[despairing_hope]

I do! Reading is rather calming, and it's always fun to learn new things.

[anthropophagite]

I think so too. I am Japanese Literature student back home, so books are my life in a way.

What kind do you like?

[despairing_hope]

Oh I like about anything that's interesting. But I have a fondness for mysteries. It's nice to try and see where the story might be going, and getting to find out if you were right or not. The best stories though are the ones where I was surprised at the end.

[anthropophagite]

I agree! I always love to see how everything pieces together and delivers the resolution. [ nerdy macnerd ] In mysteries, there are puzzles to solve and the reader will try to piece together the clues, and try to be a step ahead.

[despairing_hope]

Yes! And the more clever the harder it is to do that. For the same reason I also enjoy mystery games as well. The more complex the better.

[ kaneki is so glad he found someone who gets it ]

I don't really play games, since I never had a console or something like that- [ his aunt would never give him one, and the money he got was to be able to live, so he can't afford things like that ] but it's probably fun too.

[despairing_hope]

That's a shame. Perhaps you could play some here? They must have some! Another opportunity in being in such a place, to experience things you couldn't before.

Maybe. Library comes first, though. [ he smiles wider ]

Yes! There must be one somewhere. And if not, it can probably be created.
