Project 1: [voice] un: hello

[The Eluvio definitely made him nervous, bringing back memories of a different highly technological setting, but Emil had already made the decision to keep his weird skull-like head up and carry on. That was all there was to do, right? So even though he was scared, he was not only going to wear the strange clothes they gave him and try his best at his first ever real job, but he was going to... try to talk to new people.

It still felt like a real accomplishment, even if he did feel a lot safer not using the video feed. He just didn't want to scare anyone..]

Hello, everyone! My name is Emil.

[There. A perfectly normal thing to say! He could do this. He was going to ignore his anxieties and be brave like his friends.]

This is really confusing, but... as long as I'm here, I want to help! I can use magic, and I can fight with it, so if anyone needs a helping hand, like in a dangerous situation... I could do that.

[He can feel himself growing more and more self-conscious, so he hurries to wrap it up.]

Oh! And... does anyone know where I could get some gloves? Really small ones?

They did, but...

[Wait. Did he say stars? It was easy enough to ignore the quiet darkness outside his window, but...

Those are stars?

Slowly, as if scared he'll break the window and bring all that massive space rushing into his room, Emil approaches the window and peeks out.]

Ohh...

[It just goes on forever. Blackness, punctuated by infinite points of light that sparkle like jewels.

There's a long pause as Emil tries to process what he's finally aware of. He's not on Earth anymore. He's not on ANY world anymore. He's literally part of somebody's sky. It's terrifying, but it's also the most exciting thing ever for a little kid.]

Oh my god!

Sounds like a good choice to me. [Satisfied that Emil's come to a decision on his own, Yuuri smiles at him.]

Let's go get your gloves. [He straightens up, then pauses. There's a moment of fidgeting before he adds, quietly--] Sometimes... people can be really cruel about appearances. If you think you want someone to go with you around the stores in the future, you can come look for me.

A rock garden? My, how unique. I didn't think that there would be a zen garden on this ship. They're peaceful spots usually meant for meditating. Ponder the meaning of life while experiencing the beauty of nature. ♪

But it's strange that one would exist without a temple.

You're right, ding ding! Everyone gets a job. You don't start with a cent otherwise.

That is the question. I'm not entirely sure, but I know that all of us who went on the mission did not intend for that to be how it ended. Ending an entire warring race had never crossed my mind, even if we were the team to infiltrate and grab the thing ourselves.

[ A small pause, and an audible sigh - she's been struggling with this whole thing for a bit, Emil, sorry. ]

Long and short: This is why we have reason to question and caution new people like you. So that people can be.. aware and present when making decisions on the information given to them by the crew.

[He's talking a little out of personal experience, but he means it. If it were him in her shoes, he'd be wracked with self-doubt and guilt.]

Oh! I mean, most people definitely do, but I stayed in most of the time because it was too dangerous.

I was back here and getting my arm taken care of while others were down on the planet getting what refugees that they could... I guess the only regret is that we went in on only the incomplete information that we had been provided.

Though, before, we didn't really have a reason to doubt what we were being given, either. [ Now, though? Her maybe unsubstantiated paranoia about this place may not be so unbelievable after all. ]

I mean it. [The firm way he responds leaves no room for doubt.]

People made fun of the way I looked when I was younger. [Yuuri shrugs, mouth thinning as he recalls it. It's in the past for him now, but he knows all too well how words can sting.] So I guess you could say I sort of understand how it feels.

[He's certain that Emil's had it much worse, though.]

Yes. Rock gardens, or zen gardens, were originally placed at zen buddhism temples. Even now, picturing one reminds me of my childhood friend who works for a buddhist temple himself. [It's not zen buddhism specifically, but he still thinks of it.]

They're a very spiritual place. What an important job, taking care of something like this, fufu.

[But you're really handsome. He doesn't see why anyone would tease you.]

[Not physically, so much. but at least the upshot of having a freakish new body is that it can really take a beating.]

[He has no idea what a Buddhist is. Maybe he'd better switch jobs before he messes up and upsets someone.]

I... I don't know if I'm ready for that much responsibility. Is your friend here too? Do they work in the rock garden?

Yeah. Me. [He just smiles and shakes his head.] Maybe. One of them's a good friend of mine now--he apologized after we all grew up a little.

Why don't we start heading to the Shopping Centre? We'll have some time to talk while we're there, too.

[For one, Yuuri's incredibly interested in knowing how Emil ended up looking this way.]

Oh! That's right. I almost forgot we were going!

[Emil knows his surroundings up to the end of the hall, but after peeking around the corners to see if anyone's coming, he hangs back a bit and lets Yuuri do the leading.]

Karamatsu watches the communicator for awhile. Was this person literally asking Karamatsu to talk about himself? He's a little puzzled.. this never really happens. ]}

A—ah, well. I do, when I am feeling an intense amount of emotions and inspiration.

[ It's a rare occasion when Vaas can help make someone's day. Usually he's the one ruining it.

He doesn't affirm that those are stars. He sees him looking out the window. He just smiles, kind of enjoying his wonder. But then some kind of confusion happens and Vaas shakes his head. ]

Not god, no. My name's Vaas.

[He definitely is. His world isn't one where a lot of people have the luxury of art for the sake of art, and Emil didn't exactly get out much anyway. Finding a poetic soul like this guy is kind of a big deal!]

Do you write about someone special, or just... emotions in general?
